Only Here, Only Now
Shannon May Powell and Clara Bradley
Sunday 2 April, 6-8pm One night only
The Honeymoon Suite is pleased to announce Only Here, Only Now – a one night exhibition on Sunday 2 April 2017, 6-8pm.
Only Here, Only Now includes a new series of photographs and a spoken word performance by Shannon May Powell, with an accompanying temporary installation Peach Stone / Dwarf Flower by Clara Bradley.
Powell’s photography explores notions of gender, sexuality and identity, in particular, the intimate space where these notions unite and dissolve. Her new series Only Here, Only Now captures moments that are amorphous or nebulous, forming an inquiry into how states of ambiguity or impermanence can be represented. Bradley’s installation is a tactile and ephemeral counterpart to Powell’s photography, constructed from plastic, glass, mirror, Helianthus seeds, beta vulgaris and salt, the work will gently occupy the centre of the gallery space.
Shannon May Powell completed a residency at Torna Gallery, Istanbul, in 2016 where she published her first book, ‘The Anthropomorphism of Objects is a Form of Play,’ combining photography and poetry. Her work has been featured in group exhibitions including Berlin Feminist Film Week, Berlin, and the Independent Photography Festival, Melbourne. Her photography and writing has been featured in various publications including Ain’t Bad Contemporary Photographic Journal, If You Leave, i-D magazine and The Ladies Network.
Clara Bradley is a Melbourne based artist and writer. She has produced and curated solo projects at Rubicon ARI, Kings Artist Run, Yarra City Arts, Grey Gardens Projects and Seventh gallery, along with recent collaborative works included in exhibitions at Mailbox Art Space, Neon Parlour, George Paton Gallery and the Sleepover Club. In 2015 Bradley’s work was selected as a Keynote Project for Melbourne Fringe.
